Newspapers and Magazines

Most of these databases and web sites are available to all users in the library and at home. However, some are subject to restrictions:

No icon indicates that this resource can be freely accessed from any computer.
research_icon_card  indicates that it can be accessed from home with a valid Guilderland or UHLS library card.
research_icon_nohome  indicates that it can only be accessed from within the library.
research_icon_kids  indicates that the resource is appropriate for students, parents and teachers.

Albany Times Union

Access the Times Union‘s online site right here for the Capital Region’s latest news. In addtion, by using the Times Union‘s “Full Archives” feature, you can access most staff-written stories published in the Times Union newspaper since March 1986 (obituaries since 1993). The archives do not include online-only stories, such as local and wire-service breaking news updates. The online archive contains most locally written stories published since 1986.

Millions of full-text articles, many with images. Updated daily.

Access digitized copies of historical newspapers from the Hudson River Valley Region of New York State.

The NYS Historic Newspapers project provides free online access to a wide range of newspapers chosen to reflect New York’s unique history.

Popular Magazines includes 1,000 of the most searched magazines across our InfoTrac products. All the titles were selected based on actual publication searches performed by library patrons. This database is 100% full text and includes over 600 titles recommended by Bowker’s “Magazines for Libraries”. Titles such as Consumer Reports, Time, National Geographic, The New Yorker, Newsweek, Vanity Fair, US News and World Report, Vogue, Fortune, Business Week, National Review, Cosmopolitan, NPR and even Oprah are included in this database.
