Books and Literature

Most of these databases and web sites are available to all users in the library and at home. However, some are subject to restrictions:

No icon indicates that this resource can be freely accessed from any computer.
research_icon_card  indicates that it can be accessed from home with a valid Guilderland or UHLS library card.
research_icon_nohome  indicates that it can only be accessed from within the library.
research_icon_kids  indicates that the resource is appropriate for students, parents and teachers.


NOTE: Firewalls must be disabled in order to access some of these databases.

This website provides free, full-text access to a wide variety of reference, fiction, and non-fiction works, including poetry anthologies, the complete works of William Shakespeare, and writings by Ben Franklin, Plato, Milton, and many others.

Search for an author or work in Gale’s Literary Index. This tool can help you find entries in a number of Gale reference resources (such as Something About the Author and Children’s Literature Review). If you can’t find what you’re looking for online, ask a librarian. We may have earlier print copies of the title and entry you are looking for.

Something About the Author Online

Something About the Author offers information about the lives and work of children’s and young adult authors. Full text online availability for Guilderland Public Library includes entries beginning in July 2008 up to the present. Earlier editions of this resource are available in print at the Library.
