Friends of the Guilderland Public Library

Officers

President:   Maggie Oldendorf
Treasurer:   Mel Flaxman
Secretary:   Katherine Gordon

The Friends of the Guilderland Library was formed to give those of us devoted to libraries a vehicle to support our interests. We meet regularly with library administrators to discuss activities we might sponsor and services we might offer. In the past we have sponsored book discussion groups, musical events, and other enriching activities.

The Friends help sponsor many of the library programs and projects with funds raised through membership dues, contributions and "Book Nook" earnings. We also are very much involved in helping underwrite the Literacy Volunteers of America, the Riverway Festival, and the Library's annual Summer Reading Club.

Great Books, at Bargain Prices

The Book Nook, a retail kiosk just inside the Library’s doors, sells donated books and from those removed from the library's collection. Those books that don't sell are taken by our volunteers to many different outlets: nursing homes, shelters, community centers, senior citizen centers and to small libraries in communities around the Capital District where they often earn money for these facilities or are just donated. The main thing is to see that no worthy book is neglected and that people who do contribute their books to the library are assured their donations are valued.

Book Donations

Book donations are accepted year round; donations can be placed in the bin across from the Circulation Desk. If you wish to make a sizable donation of books, please call ahead. Absolutely no dusty or musty books, textbooks, Reader's Digest condensed books, or dated encyclopedias. Those books not added to the Library's collection are given to the Friends for possible sale in The Book Nook.

Please join us...

If you share our interests, we encourage you to join the Friends and to participate actively. We meet monthly at 10 am on the third Saturday of each month.
